Customer Reviews

This small unit was perfect for my two bedroom one bath house. The issue is this; if you have single handle faucets, when tempering the hot water the blend valve reduces hot water flow while introducing cold water to the stream. The water heater senses the reduction in flow and shuts off, giving the bather a dose of cold water. Using the controls on the water heater to reduce gas flow and temperature setting allows the user to set the hot water temperature to about 110 degrees. This allows you to set the water valve on your single lever faucet to full hot and leave it there for the duration. The other solution, which I plan to implement as soon as finances allow, is to replace the single handle faucets with two-handle, two-valve faucets. Other than this little bit of behavior modification the unit works great!

Well, despite having to call the city inspector to get an ok to install it (the plumber didn't want to because this unit doesn't have an ANSI or some other certification) and then convincing the plumber that this was a good idea- I'm pretty happy.
I had a 30 gal water heater blow up in my office basement. After the flood subsided- I realized two things- we don't need to heat that much water- nor do we need to store it. We only have three hand sinks.
having been to Europe many times- I've been familiar with on-demand water heaters- and this seemed like a great price/performance solution.
But- here is where things got tricky- can't vent it up the chimney- and the wall where it needed to be was too close to ground level.
So instead of mounting it near the manablock- we had to mount it 25' away.
We now have to clear the lines before we get hot water- and they are a lot longer than they used to be.
But the real killer- was that it requires 2.5" stainless steel flue pipe- which no plumbing supply has.
We had to go to a muffler shop - and pay for an entire stick of 10' stainless pipe- in a much heavier gauge than what the manufacturer supplied- just for 2 pieces that added up to 18"- plus getting the pipe expanded- total bill was $100 extra for that. Had to use some flue pipe high temperature putty to seal the pipe- because the unions couldn't be made to fit in the direction of flow with the muffler tubing.
If anyone needs some stainless- I have extra, unfortunately.
The old hot water heater was 3 feet from the manablock- so we had almost instant hot water- now it takes a bit for the water to clear the system- but, once it does it's a plenty warm enough and we don't run out.
The unit is quiet- looks nice on the wall, and I'm sure I'm saving a ton on natural gas.
